William Abbink

Biography


William (Bill) C Abbink passed away Wednesday, February 19th, 2014 at his residence in El Prado, NM. Bill was born in Chicago, Illinois. Bill graduated from Saint Andrews High School in Chicago in 1946. Bill served in the United States Air Force from April 1952 until he was honorably discharged in September 1956. While serving in Frankfurt, Germany Bill met his true love, Anna Maria Sigl. They were married in Germany in 1956 and moved back to Chicago in that same year. Between 1956 and 1970 Bill and Anna Maria vacationed and visited frequently to Vail, Colorado. Both were avid skiers and loved the outdoors. In 1970, Bill and Anna Maria relocated to Vail. They owned a pottery studio and gift shop, and Bill was self-employed with a Bed And Breakfast and was a licensed Relator. Bill and Anna Maria were very active in the Vail Community and Bill was an avid Golfer during their time there. Bill and Anna Maria retired and relocated to Taos in 1995. Bill enjoyed playing golf with his many friends at the Taos Country Club, while Anna Maria pursued her artistic gifts as a potter, painter, and quilter. Bill was very devoted to his pet cats Gadget and Luna and they miss his gentle touch.
Bill was preceded in death by Anna Maria in 2010; he was also preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Hilda Abbink of Chicago.
Bill is survived by his sister, Mary Jane Abbink Borchardt, of Los Banos, CA, his step-son, James W Abbink, of Albuquerque, his nieces Barbara Jelinek, of Bayfield, CO, and Mary Jane Weiszbrod of Clovis, CA.


A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 10 AM at the Taos Country Club, and internment at 3 PM the Santa Fe National Cemetery with full military honors.
