Marcos Romero

Biography


Marcos V Romero, 83, passed away April 22, 2015. He was a noted woodworker, woodcarver, craftsman, and artist in Taos. He made his first chair in a Taos High woodworking class in 1948. This was the beginning of a lifelong career creating Spanish Colonial style furniture. He opened The Workshop in 1955 and maintained operations until quite recently. His work can be found world-wide; among noted commissions are furnishings for the Abilene National Bank, doors for the mansion of Willy G Davidson, heir to the Harley-Davidson motorcycle company, and doors for the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque. His legacy also includes five children, seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. His motto was Laborum Dulce Lenimen (Labor is sweet solace for the soul).

Rosary was recited on April 27, 2015. Funeral mass was held on April 28, 2015. Both services were held at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church. Interment was held at the Pacheco Cemetery.
