Ruth Rael

Biography


Ruth Rael, age 97, a resident of Questa, NM, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 15, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her family. Ruth was born in 1918 to Mateas and Lucia Archuleta in Sauguache, Colorado. Ruth came to New Mexico during the World War II era. She was a teacher in Questa, Penasco, Valdez and the Fish Hatchery. She was a strong believer in Education. Ruth married Aaron Real in November 1948 and Questa became her community where she was well respected and liked by Questenos and visitors alike. Together, Ruth and Aaron owned and ran Raels Market for 37 years. Ruth was a Charter Member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Rael, Sr., son, Aron Rael, Jr., her parents, and her in-laws, Enrique and Adonaisa Rael, and numerous relatives. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Rael-Vigil (Armando Vigil, Jr.) and Roberta Rael; daughter in law, Maggie Rael; grandchildren, Armando Vigil III, Enriquetta Vigil (Robert), Esperanza Vigil, Javier Vigil, Lucia Martinez, Moises and Eleanor Rael; great-grandchildren, Robert Robison, IV and Sophia Vigil; brother, Claude Archuleta (Vera), sister, Dora Atencio, brothers-in-law, Richard Rael (Olivia) and John Martinez, sisters-in-law, Maria Archuleta, Rosabelle Archuleta, Tina Padilla, Grace Martinez, Eloisa Rael and Margaret Cummings (Leo) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rosary was recited on June 18, 2015. Funeral mass was held on June 19, 2015. Both were held at St. Anthonys Parish Center with interment following at El Pueblito Cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera Family Funeral Home.
