My dear friend Saki Karavas introduced me to Arturo in 1986. As it was always the case with the two friends, our encounter started with a good argument and ended in good spirits and some great breakfast in Taos. After having spent the entire night engaged in good, spirited and amicable conversation, drinking and smoking cigars, Saki and I were taking a stroll in the Taos Plaza when Arturo, who was driving by, opened his car window and started cursing the Greeks. I have always been a big guy and being a Greek, I got offended and moved to grab Arturo by the lapels and pulled him out of the car. While Saki was laughing heartily, Arturo apologised saying something about being "two of them in town, as one were not enough!" Saki introduced me to Arturo and we immediately became friends. We walked down the street, talking about life and the good apple pie that the good restaurant (I forgot its name) had in store for us. We continued the conversation at the restaurant and then Arturo invited me to his house where I met his lovely wife, Jacqueline, and their wonderful family of Scotties! I love Scotties too and when that wave of Scottie spirit came in from the garden bursting into their living room, I couldnt help it but feel the positive energy and warmth that my hosts and the entire house were radiating. We continued our discussion well into the afternoon switching between subjects as diverse as world politics, economics, art, poetry and of course the favorite subject of all of us which was women and how to better understand them! The fact that we all three of us had high aspirations in life (such as understanding women) is probably what united us the most. I call it love for life. Arturo had that thirst and long for life that is shared among all Mediterranean cultures. I will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with his lovely wife Jacqueline! I always reminded Arturo how lucky he had been in life by having her as his partner in his lifes voyage. I know that he loved he

It was a pleasure knowing you Sir. Though we only met a few times I have always remembered with fondness visiting with you in your office in your home here in Taos, talking about shared interests while your FAX machine buzzed away next to my chair. I can only wish that we had more time to visit. Rest In Peace my friend.
